Dedication, efficiency, and a passion for service—Melissa Rector, Senior Administrative Assistant for Student Involvement & Engagement, embodies them all. Managing a fast-paced department, handling budget responsibilities, and streamlining operations, she plays a crucial role in her team’s success. But beyond her skills, her kindness and professionalism make a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike.
A Supportive Community and Professional Growth
Melissa loves the welcoming and collaborative environment at Texas State.
“There is a strong sense of collaboration across departments, and everyone is committed to the university’s mission. I appreciate the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects, work with talented colleagues, and support students’ success. Additionally, being a student myself, I have been fortunate to experience my own academic growth while working here.”
One of her proudest accomplishments is completing the Leadership Academy in Spring 2024.
“This program was an incredible opportunity that not only expanded my leadership skills but also allowed me to connect with inspiring colleagues across campus. Being selected as one of only 20 participants made it even more meaningful.”
She credits the experience with reinforcing her passion for collaboration and personal development.
“Completing the Leadership Academy was a transformative experience that has empowered me to be a more effective leader and contributor to our university community.”

Life Beyond Work
When she’s not at work, Melissa enjoys hiking, movie nights, and board games with her husband and four kids. She also has a small farm with six Nigerian dwarf goats, two cats, and a dog, making life extra adventurous.
“Taking care of them is both rewarding and entertaining. Beyond that, we love spending time with our extended family whenever we can. Whether it’s a casual get-together or a special occasion, being surrounded by loved ones brings us so much joy.”
