Simple ways to boost connection, energy, and wellness at Texas State

Movement is more than just exercise, it’s a way to recharge, reduce stress, and connect with others. At WellCats, we believe that building wellness into our daily routines doesn’t have to mean hours at the gym; it can be as simple as walking, stretching, or standing together. One of the most effective (and enjoyable) ways to build these connections is through shared movement. Whether it’s a fifteen-minute stretch break, a 30- or 45-minute lunchtime wellness class or walk, or a yoga session after work, moving together helps strengthen relationships while supporting overall health.
Engaging in physical activity alongside your colleagues create opportunities for connection that go beyond the workplace routine. A short group walk across campus, for example, provides space for conversation, laughter, and stress relief—all while adding steps to your day. Stretch breaks in a meeting or office setting encourage mindfulness, ease tension and boost focus, while reminding us that it’s okay to pause and take care of ourselves. Group classes like yoga or strength training not only support physical wellness but also foster a sense of belonging, as everyone shares the experience of progressing together.
The benefits extend beyond physical health. Shared movement builds community and creates a supportive environment where colleagues can encourage one another which contributes to a positive workplace culture—one where wellness is seen as a collective priority, not just an individual responsibility.
Incorporating these practices can be simple and effective. A brief stretch before or after a meeting, invite a coworker to join you for a campus walk, or check out one of the WellCats classes designed for faculty and staff. Even small moments of shared activity can strengthen relationships and boost morale. By choosing to move together, we not only support our own health but also help create a more vibrant and supportive TXST community!
