If you’ve noticed increased publicity of TXST sports, you can thank Chris Kutz, Athletics Communications Director. Chris coordinates media coverage of Bobcat athletics through television, radio, and news releases. He also helped launch the States Up Podcast which shines a spotlight on TXST athletes’ personal journeys and experiences.
Check out our Q&A below to learn more about Chris Kutz!
Q: What led you to TXST?
A: “I learned about an opening in the athletics department from a mentor, and then I got a call from some guy named Travis Comer. After not hanging up on Travis, and learning more about the job, it felt right. I want to be a leader in college athletics, and Texas State provided a great opportunity for me to have an impact on a place and to also grow and develop at the same time.”
Q: What do you enjoy most about your role?
A: “Working with all types of people, from student-athletes to coaches to fellow staff members to media to fans to donors. Everyone has an interesting story about what brought them to Texas State, so I find a lot of joy in learning about their paths to this point. It’s the beauty of sports. Different people from different backgrounds and experiences that are brought together to collectively achieve one thing: WIN.”
Q: What are you most known for at work? How would your colleagues describe you?
A: “I’d like to say I’m known for my dry humor, but I find myself the only one laughing at my jokes. Other than that, I’d say my conviction or desire to get things done.”
Q: What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about being a Bobcat employee?
A: “That there are lots of people here that care about athletics and want to see our teams succeed and win championships. Our student-athletes and coaches put in a lot of work to represent Texas State well at a national level, and it’s great to see the support they get whenever they compete.”
Q: What are your favorite hobbies outside of the workplace?
A: “Everything that keeps you moving: running, hiking, dog walks (shoutout to my dog, Cale), working out, golf, hockey. I also enjoy watching Texas State teams compete, even if I’m not working that game.”
