Read our Q&A below to learn more about Denise!

Q: What do you enjoy the most about your position/role?

A: “I enjoy the people I work with on my team and across campus. My Business Analysis and Solutions team is a dedicated group of people that strive to bring the University “.Net” applications to help automate manual processes that aren’t part of larger systems (like Banner and SAP) but are still important to the daily business of the University. This team works to improve the work flow processes of departments across campus. We also help customers gather and display their data more efficiently. I enjoy working with customers to create applications that make their lives easier. Most of these customers are very appreciative of the work our team does to provide a solution to their manual processes. I enjoy getting to know the people I work with!”

Q: What workplace achievement or accomplishment are you most proud of?

A: “I am proud of all the achievements and accomplishments that I have received over the years and the different job titles that I have been fortunate enough to have achieved. I’ve received awards like the Bravos awards, Team awards, and the employee excellence award from the IT Division. I’ve also been a part of quarterly team awards, the “Friends of SLAC” award, the Employee of the Month from Technology Resources, and now this very special Employee of the Month award for the University. I’m proud of each of these awards because I was blessed to receive them from the people that I work with every day. It shows that they appreciate the work that I do for them on a daily basis and I would like to thank them all for their support!”

Q: What are you most known for in your office? How would your colleagues describe you?

A: “We support 75 to 80 .Net applications and I have been here the longest, so I guess I am the go-to person for knowledge of most of our applications. I would hope they describe me as helpful and friendly!”

Q: What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about being a TXST employee?

A: “Well there are 2 things. First, in our department, it’s like an extended family. We help each other and care about our co-workers and customers. We celebrate the good stuff and are supportive when life throws you a curve ball.

Second, one of the greatest benefits of working here that most people don’t utilize is the Wellness program. WellCats instructors and members helped me get through some tough times. They helped me stay in shape and get strong, which in turn helped in my battle with breast cancer. While I was going through chemo, they encouraged me to keep coming to class when I felt like it and they gave me the confidence and support to keep fighting. They also helped me get through COVID by keeping up the work outs through Zoom and Facebook Live so we could all stay connected!  This is a great program that we as TXST employees are lucky to have. People I know that have left the University to work at other places have commented that they wish their new work place had a wellness program like TXST for employees.”

Q: What’s your favorite hobby or activity outside of the workplace?

A: “Traveling and ranching with my family, water skiing, snow skiing, ice skating, hiking, movies with friends. Thanks to the WellCats team and a coworker of mine, I’ve also enjoyed small triathlons and adventure races.”
